D&D for Teens

We know firsthand at Dice Party that it can be hard to find fellow D&D players to join your game. So we created a safe, virtual place where D&D-loving teens can come together to play this amazing game!

What is Dungeons and Dragons?

Dungeons & Dragons is a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) where players take on the role of heroes going on an adventure! Don't let the name deceive you, the game does not have to feature dungeons or dragons. At Dice Party, we’ve had campaigns where a band of time-displaced cowboys prevent the apocalypse from an invading force of robots. Campaigns can even get as ridiculous as a group of grimy rats patrolling the dark streets of Paris to solve the mystery of a very famous rat-chef’s murder. The setting is completely dependent on the interests and desires of the players! This allows for deeper connection to the world, characters, and storylines. At Dice Party, playing online D&D means players get to go on fun, personal adventures that their characters can influence. If you are still unsure what D&D is about, sign up for our FREE intro session where we go over what D&D is, how to make a character, how to play, and then play through a one-shot!

Why is D&D Beneficial for Teens?

This group is for high schoolers around 14-17. If your child is younger than 14, check out our groups for pre-teens. If you are 18 or older, check out our D&D groups for adults. This older group means that there are opportunities to explore more complex themes while still keeping everyone safe and comfortable. The ability to explore stories with moral conundrums through D&D can create real world impact on players. Studies have linked playing D&D with an increase in empathy, moral development, and selflessness in players. D&D allows players to explore their creativity, problem solve, and experiment with their identity. This allows players to explore who they are without real world consequences. And yet, they take these experiences into their lives. We have seen our players develop better social skills, create beautiful art and stories, and even become more comfortable with who they are. Past that, online D&D is simply a great way to make friends and unwind after a long week of classes.

How Dice Party Works

Once you sign up for a 15-minute meeting or send us an email on our sign up page, you will get to meet with a member of our team so we can get to know your teen and find them the perfect group! From there they can do the free one-shot or join one of our longer campaigns. No obscure supplies needed, all you need is an internet connection, a mic, and a camera. You don't even have to know how to play yet!

Dice Party is completely online! This allows for a comfortable environment since meeting through a screen can be a great buffer for social anxiety while still allowing for genuine friendships to form. In no way does meeting online lessen the joys of playing Dungeons and Dragons. In fact, in some ways it enhances it.

There are a ton of different online resources to play D&D that Dice Party uses. Thanks to D&D Beyond we can easily create character sheets and freely share what cool items and races that individual players might have bought. Websites like Roll20 and Owlbear Rodeo allow for players to easily see combat maps. We use Discord and Zoom so players can see and hear each other when playing online. Every game is moderated by a trained member of Dice Party. Player safety and comfort is our number one goal.

Groups are composed of 4-6 players who are grouped based on age, interests, and play compatibility. Each group meets weekly for 90-minute sessions. These groups last for at least one “story arc,” which is 10 sessions but can go on indefinitely. The fee for a story arc, which includes ten 90-minute sessions, is $499. If you have any other questions, check out our FAQ or send us an email

How We Ensure Player Safety

Here at Dice Party, safety of our players is our number one priority. There is always at least one trained adult moderating every session. In addition to this, we have moderators on our private Discord server, which is only for Dice Party members 17 and under (this is a separate server from the public one listed on our website). We make sure that our online meeting space is secure, only those with invites can enter.

We are also aware that anyone can have phobias or triggers that should not be brought up in game. To prevent this from happening, we include a private survey that every player must fill out. Once we have this information, we make sure that no Dice Party Game Master (GM) or player will bring up these topics. All of our storylines for our teens are rated PG-13, so parents can rest easy knowing the content will be safe and clean.

Our online groups are safe places for everyone. Dice Party strives to be an affirming and inclusive community for our LGBTQ+ and BIPOC players. While every group has their own rules and boundaries, we share pronouns (if players want to) and uphold an inclusive environment. We celebrate our diverse community and welcome all members!

Past Campaign Descriptions

  • Welcome to the Islas de la Muerte, a large group of islands separated by incredibly large swaths of inky water, all surrounded by large mountains on every side. The dark water here is said to be runoff from the River Styx. Across these islands, piracy reigns supreme. There are numerous pirates, of various levels of power, who sail these seas but none are so dreaded or respected as the Pirate King, Erving ‘Grim’ Marlow. If you hope to get the edge over your pirate-y competition, try to keep your eye out for Death Fruit; fruit with the ability to give the consumer unimaginable and truly random powers such as the ability to see the future or allow the consumer to eat diamonds. But be careful, if you eat the Death Fruit, the dead who reside in the water will pull you down to the underworld if you get close enough.

  • Welcome to the Sunken City, a vertical metropolis with a diverse population and a fusion of magic and arcano-tech across its many levels. From the highest spires to the deepest caverns, magic and arcano-tech are woven into the very fabric of the city, powering its factories, lighting its streets, and driving its machines. Ogres toil in the factories, artificers craft new and deadly devices, and wizards tinker with the properties of magical crystals to create renewable energy sources. But the city is not without its dangers. Strange bubbles have been appearing all over, offering glimpses into other dimensions and sparking the interest of many factions. The Arcanocracy, a newly established group of ruling mages, seeks to harness this power to consolidate their control over the city. Meanwhile, the Dragonflight, a group of powerful dragons and their followers, also seeks to harness the power of dimensional travel. The Hart Guild is made up of powerful trade lords and merchant princes, all vying for control over the lucrative trade routes and markets within the city. The guild maintains strict control over the flow of goods and services within the city, and they are not afraid to use their wealth and influence to further their own interests. The Undercity Syndicate operates in the shadows, specializing in smuggling, theft, and assassination. And the Order of the Radiant Dawn, a religious order devoted to bringing peace and order to the city, believes that their mission is divinely ordained. Each faction has its own agenda, but all are interested in the otherworldly bubbles and the potential they hold.

  • Welcome to Thirio, the land atop Ao, the World Tortoise. On the shell of this gargantuan creature lies a world that has seen some technological progress; there are rudimentary pistols and muskets, vehicles pulled by beasts, and schools of learning. However, there is also much turmoil on the surface. There are monstrous beasts that traverse across Ao, many causing destruction. In response to this, schools of learning have been created, all with the intention of gaining mastery over the creatures. Often these factions will war with one another. In Thirio there are many different kingdoms with diverse biomes. The one area that most people avoid is The Deep, located in the very center of Thirio, a land filled with the most terrifying of monsters. They've started to leave their domain. Stay safe. Stay vigilant.

  • Welcome to Myst, a magical and fantastical place. In this world there are haunted forests, freezing mountain peaks, and swaths of untraveled land. The main differentiator between this fantasy world and any other is that most people are linked with a myst (a beast) from birth. These mysts can speak, think, and care strongly for their owners. They carry a strong bond that will stay with them until they leave this mortal plain. Occasionally you will find certain mysts without masters, they are known as the boundless. Certain groups of beasts will even roam around, attempting to sever the connections of beasts and owners, believing that is the only way to truly live. There are kings and queens who rule over the land, knights who live and die by their orders, and adventurers who do what they can to survive and thrive. You fine hero, are one of those adventurers.

  • Welcome to Cygnus, a futuristic planet filled with cutting-edge technology, from teleportation devices to laser blasters and towering mechanical beasts. Unlike other fantastical worlds, Cygnus has no real gods or magic to speak of. However, something strange has been happening lately. You've been experiencing vivid and recurring dreams, in which the planet is besieged by a multitude of chaotic creatures, from giant rabbit dragons to shadowy monsters. But what's even stranger is that since the start of these dreams, you've discovered that you can bring powerful weapons, newfound abilities, and otherworldly artifacts from the dream world into reality. But you are not the only one, you keep getting flashes of others with your abilities, also getting a handle on how to use them.

  • Welcome to Onus, a city that is the pinnacle of technology in a world that is already full of advancements. There are flying vehicles, teleporters, and laser blasters. The one downside is that there is no magic in this world. However, scientists have found a way to transport people into different realities, and have recently found a place full of magic: Shinra. A beautiful landscape filled with dense forests, magical temples, and flowing rivers. You are from Onus, and are being put into Shinra to gather data for Sarif Industries. Whether you are an employee or someone from the streets who is being used for this experimental procedure, you will be inhabiting a new body in Shinra. Hopefully all goes well.

  • Welcome to Arcadia, a realm teeming with queens, kings, and knights, yet plagued by monsters, ominous prophecies, and divine enemies. You find yourself within the walls of Deus Castle, an esteemed institution where children of the Greek gods hone their godly powers to defend the mortal world. But your battles won't be limited to slaying beasts. The gods themselves have made mistakes, and their blunders have caused chaos and destruction in the world. As their children, you bear the weight of those mistakes, and it is up to you to put things right. As you train and grow in strength and skill, you'll encounter prophecies of great power, ancient artifacts with mysterious powers, and enemies of the gods who seek to destroy everything you hold dear. You'll be challenged in ways you never imagined, and you'll need to rely on your training, your divine abilities, and of course, each other.
